What is it ?

Unwanted growth on the skin is a benign condition where a lump of tissue starts projecting out from the skin. Even though they are harmless, in some cases, certain moles can be cancerous.

Some of these unwanted growths could be from hormonal disorders. Most of them do not require treatment unless they produce symptoms. A skin biopsy may be needed to evaluate lesions that have changed or that display malignant characteristics.

Unwanted Skin Growths Types

  • Skin Tags: Skin tags or skin polyps are projections of smooth or irregular skin, either flesh-colored or more deeply pigmented, from the surrounding skin usually connected by a narrow stalk. They occur commonly in the neck and under the arms.
  • Moles: Moles are small skin marks caused by pigment-producing cells in the skin. They can occur anywhere on the body.
  • Milia: Milias are asymptomatic, tiny, and white or skin colored raised sub-epidermal cysts usually seen in all age groups around the eyes.
  • Warts:Warts are harmless skin growth caused by the human papilloma virus. They grow slowly and range in appearance from papules and plaques to large, flowering cysts with tiny black dots.
  • Cherry Angiomas: Cherry Angiomas are red small papules that increase in number as we age. They are not harmful.

Treatment

  • Cryotherapy is a procedure that uses extreme cold (liquid nitrogen) to destroy the tissue. The liquid nitrogen instantly freezes the growth and a bit of the surrounding skin tissue causing a burning or stinging feeling during application and for a few minutes afterward.
  • Hyfrecator emits an alternating, low-power current with a high frequency to the body using a probe.
  • Surgical Removal: involves snipping off the skin tag at its base using surgical scissors.
  • Salicylic Acid Peels: exfoliate the top layers of the skin and helps clean and renew face pores.
  • Microdermabrasion: gently sand away the thick outer layer of the skin to rejuvenate it.
